I am a Ph.D. student at the University of Durham working under the supervision of Prof. Damian Hampshire, having completed a previous 4 years Master’s degree in Durham already!

The values of current density in high-field superconductors are pitifully small, typically less than 1% of the theoretical limit in high fields. My research uses computational techniques to model and identify the mechanism for flux pinning and the modes of flux flow in high-field superconductors, identifying routes for increasing the high-field critical current values by a factor of 10 for applications in fusion.
