Matthew will be studying irradiation damage effects on REBCO type high temperature superconductors for use in magnetic confinement fusion reactors. The project will focus on understanding the correlation between the superconducting properties and the atomic scale structural changes resulting from neutron irradiation – using the specialised electron ptychography technique with Professor Peter Nellist.
Matthew received his Meng in Materials Science at Oxford having completed his part-II masters research project with Professor David Armstrong and Professor Felix Hofmann.
