Sam and Bhavin – research trips to San Diego

Sam Gibson and Bhavin Patel have both recently returned from successful research trips to General Atomics in San Diego. Sam Gibson (a fourth year Durham University Fusion CDT student) was sponsored by and collaborated with researchers from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and General Atomics. Sam was at General Atomics for around 10 weeks working on the Imaging Motional Stark Effect diagnostic which was successfully deployed on the high field side of DIII-D for the first time.

Bhavin Patel (a fourth year University of York Fusion CDT student) spent three weeks with the General Atomics theory group building a quasilinear transport code. Bhavin will use this to predict plasma profiles for his PhD thesis.
