Max has recently passed his viva so please join me in congratulating him on this achievement!
The title of Max’s thesis is-
Experimental diagnostics and modelling of low temperature hydrogen plasmas.
Max’s PhD looked at how low temperature hydrogen plasmas interact with surfaces, combining experiments and modelling to study ion bombardment, atomic hydrogen wall loss, and negative ion production. In practice, Max measured how plasma conditions control ion energy and flux, used absolute hydrogen density measurements to constrain a surface kinetics plasma model, and showed that negative ion yield from gadolinium is strongly linked to the surface work function.
