Istvan Cziegler

Plasma Physics Lead

University of York

Istvan is a Senior Lecturer at the University of York and the leader of the Plasma Strand in the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Fusion Power. His research is in the area of plasma turbulence in magnetic confinement fusion energy (MCF) spanning theoretical development of metrics of nonlinearity, modelling the plasma edge and the unconfined regions, plasma–wall interactions, confinement regimes, model validation, experimental techniques and the development of optical diagnostics. Understanding the self-organisation of turbulence and its effect on the properties fluctuations have in terms of the transport of heat, mass and momentum affords us insights into a consistent plasma solution for power plants scale confinement. He currently teaches advanced plasma physics to MPhys, MSc and CDT level students in Plasma Science, Fusion and Innovation, and serves on the delivery group for MSc/CDT teaching and learning.
